Milestone Birthday Draws Statewide Commendation
AS Dame Edith Okowa turns 65, tributes have continued to highlight her years of humanitarian engagement and advocacy for vulnerable groups, with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori leading the commendations.
The governor described the former First Lady as a compassionate leader whose efforts have improved the wellbeing of many residents across the state.
Championing Health and Social Welfare
Central to Dame Okowa’s public service record, according to the governor, is her dedication to healthcare and social intervention programmes.
Through the 05 Initiative Foundation, she spearheaded projects aimed at supporting individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
One of the foundation’s most notable areas of intervention was the fight against sickle cell disorder, a condition that affects thousands of families across Nigeria.
The governor praised her role in establishing specialised sickle cell clinics in hospitals throughout Delta State, helping to improve treatment access and public awareness.
Empowering the Vulnerable
Beyond healthcare, Dame Okowa was recognised for initiatives designed to empower economically disadvantaged individuals and provide support for vulnerable groups.
Governor Oborevwori noted that many beneficiaries of her programmes received opportunities to improve their livelihoods, creating positive ripple effects in communities across the state.
He said her approach combined compassion with practical solutions, enabling many families to access assistance that improved their quality of life.
A Legacy Beyond Public Office
The governor stressed that Dame Okowa’s influence extends beyond her years as First Lady, noting that her humanitarian work remains a significant part of her legacy.
He described her as a devoted mother, mentor and advocate whose commitment to service has continued to resonate with many people.
According to him, the respect she enjoys today is rooted in years of consistent efforts aimed at uplifting others and promoting social inclusion.
Prayers for Continued Service
Congratulating her on the milestone birthday, Governor Oborevwori wished Dame Okowa continued good health, happiness and fulfillment.
He also expressed hope that she would remain active in humanitarian causes, continuing the work that has made her one of the most recognised advocates for community welfare in Delta State.
The governor concluded by thanking her for her contributions to the development, wellbeing and empowerment of the people of Delta State over the years.
