Oborevwori Backs City Boy Movement, Urges Youth Political Engagement

Governor Endorses Youth-Driven Political Engagement
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the City Boy Movement for its growing influence in youth mobilisation and political engagement, describing it as a dynamic force shaping civic participation.
The governor gave the endorsement while receiving the group’s leadership, led by its National Director-General, Francis Shoga, during a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.
He noted that the movement’s visibility across digital platforms and grassroots networks reflects a new wave of politically conscious youth engagement in Nigeria.
Youth as Central Actors in Governance
Oborevwori emphasised the critical role of young people in governance, describing them not just as future leaders but as active stakeholders in shaping present-day policies.
He urged members of the movement to sustain their organisational momentum and continue promoting leadership, civic awareness, and national development.
According to him, the energy, creativity, and advocacy demonstrated by youth groups such as the City Boy Movement are essential in building inclusive governance structures.
Alignment with National Political Agenda
The governor also acknowledged the movement’s support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the president as a committed democrat.
He encouraged the group to deepen its mobilisation efforts in support of democratic participation, particularly as political activities begin to intensify ahead of future elections.
Observers note that such alignments highlight the increasing role of organised youth blocs in shaping political narratives and voter mobilisation strategies.
Expansion and Institutional Growth
In his remarks, Francis Shoga described the visit as a reaffirmation of the group’s mission to empower young Nigerians and promote active participation in governance.
He revealed that the movement has expanded significantly, with structures across more than 30 states and an international footprint spanning over 100 countries.
The inauguration of the Delta State chapter during the visit marks a key milestone in its nationwide expansion strategy.
