Asaba Political Clash: Delta APC Calls For Justice, Warns Against Violence & Intimidation

THE Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council has called for an impartial police investigation into the violence that disrupted a Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) procession along Nnebisi Road, Asaba, on Saturday 7 November 2026.
The incident reportedly resulted in a loss of life, injuries and damage to property. However, the APC council said political differences should never provide justification for violence or endanger the lives of citizens.
In a statement issued by its Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Hon. Charles Aniagwu, the council condemned the confrontation and expressed sympathy for the family of the deceased and those injured.
It described the development as deeply regrettable. Moreover, it maintained that no political ambition should take precedence over human life, public safety and peaceful coexistence.
The council therefore urged the Delta State Police Command to investigate the incident thoroughly and without political interference.
It wants the police to establish what triggered the violence, identify those directly involved and determine whether any individuals or groups sponsored or encouraged the confrontation.
According to the statement, everyone found culpable should face the law, irrespective of political connections, influence or party membership.
Beyond demanding accountability, the APC council used the opportunity to restate its commitment to peaceful political mobilisation.
Aniagwu recalled that the party’s leadership had made that position clear during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council. He said the council had pledged to pursue responsible, peaceful and issue-based campaigns.
He added that the APC intended to engage voters through its achievements, programmes, vision and policy proposals rather than intimidation or violence.
The statement also emphasised that the party had no intention of abandoning that approach. Instead, it reaffirmed its commitment to political engagement that respects the rights and safety of all Deltans.
Meanwhile, the council urged political parties, their leaders and supporters to exercise restraint throughout the campaign period. It warned that political disagreements must not lead to attacks, threats or destruction of property.
The APC council concluded by reiterating its commitment to protecting peace and security across Delta State. It called on all political actors to place the collective interests of residents above partisan considerations and ensure that political competition remains peaceful.
