Oborevwori Approves June Stipends For 10,000 Delta Widows

Governor Sustains Monthly Welfare Programme
THE Delta State Government has commenced the payment of June 2026 monthly stipends to 10,000 beneficiaries of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme, reaffirming Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens across the state.
Beneficiaries drawn from the 25 local government areas of Delta State reportedly began receiving payment alerts on Friday, with many expressing gratitude for the continued implementation of the social welfare programme.
The initiative forms part of the state government’s efforts to provide financial assistance to widows facing economic hardship while promoting inclusive and people-centred governance.
Scheme Provides Lifeline for Vulnerable Women
The Widows Welfare Scheme was introduced to cushion the financial burden experienced by widows following the loss of their spouses and to improve their welfare through regular monthly support.
Over the months, the programme has become a vital source of relief for thousands of beneficiaries, helping many meet essential household needs amid prevailing economic challenges.
The state government has maintained that the intervention reflects its broader commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and improving social welfare across Delta State.
Coordinator Commends Governor’s Commitment
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, confirmed that payment of the June stipends had commenced, with beneficiaries already receiving funds in their bank accounts.
According to him, the prompt release of the stipends demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s sustained commitment to improving the welfare of disadvantaged residents.
He described the governor’s consistency in funding the programme as evidence of compassionate leadership and a determination to ensure that vulnerable citizens continue to benefit from government interventions.
“The stipends for June 2026 have started reaching the accounts of the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme. This is another demonstration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens,” Okonta said.
Verification Exercise Strengthens Credibility
Okonta also praised the widows’ monitors and Local Government Area coordinators for successfully conducting the verification exercise across all 25 councils.
He explained that the exercise was designed to strengthen the integrity of the programme by ensuring that only duly verified beneficiaries receive the monthly stipends.
According to him, the transparent verification process has further enhanced public confidence in the scheme while guaranteeing that government support reaches genuine widows.
He added that the welfare initiative continues to reflect the administration’s resolve to leave no vulnerable citizen behind through targeted social intervention programmes.
