No Ransom Paid As Security Agencies Free Oyo School Victims, Nab Eight Suspects

Victims Freed in Coordinated Security Operation
ALL pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom following a coordinated rescue operation by Nigerian security agencies.
The successful operation, announced on Thursday, brought an end to days of anxiety over the fate of the victims and resulted in the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while several other members of the criminal gang were neutralised during the operation.
Authorities said the suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) as investigations continue.
Government Rejects Kidnappers’ Conditions
According to official information, the abductors had demanded the release of one of their alleged kingpins as a condition for freeing the victims.
The Federal Government, however, rejected the demand, maintaining that the suspect remains under prosecution for alleged criminal offences.
Officials stressed that the rescue was achieved entirely through security operations without any negotiation involving prisoner exchange or ransom payment.
The government’s position, they noted, reflects its resolve not to reward criminality or encourage further kidnappings.
Security Agencies Commended
One of the rescued teachers expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies for securing the safe release of all those held captive.
The teacher described the outcome as a huge relief for the victims, their families and the affected communities.
Authorities have assured the public that further details of the operation will be made available after ongoing investigations and operational assessments are concluded.
Renewed Focus on Combating Kidnapping
The latest rescue operation adds to ongoing efforts by security agencies to intensify the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.
The arrest of the suspected kidnappers is expected to aid intelligence gathering and strengthen ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks responsible for abductions in different parts of Nigeria.
