Nwankwo Sisters Lead Sprint Dominance
Among the standout performers were Rosemary Chigozie Nwankwo and Lucy Chiamaka Nwankwo, who both captured gold medals in the women’s 100 metres.
Rosemary claimed the U18 girls’ title after producing a remarkable personal best of 11.35 seconds, while Lucy followed with another impressive performance, recording a lifetime best of 11.41 seconds to secure the U20 women’s 100m crown.
Their victories highlighted Nigeria’s continued tradition of producing talented female sprinters capable of competing at the highest levels of African athletics.
Godwin Extends Nigeria’s Winning Streak
Nigeria’s success continued in the men’s events as Tejiri Godwin stormed to victory in the U20 men’s 100 metres.
The young sprinter crossed the finish line in 10.35 seconds to claim another gold medal for Team Nigeria, reinforcing the country’s dominance in the sprint events during the championship.
His victory further demonstrated the depth of talent emerging from Nigeria’s youth athletics programme.

Nigeria also celebrated success in the U18 girls’ 400 metres, where Faith Ezechukwu secured the gold medal after an impressive performance.
Completing an excellent outing for the team, Jecinta Lawrence finished second to claim the silver medal, giving Nigeria a memorable one-two finish in the event and adding to the country’s growing medal tally.
