‘My Husband Did Not Rape Or Kill Favour’ — Odogwu Asaba’s Wife Breaks Silence

THE wife of Delta-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, has publicly defended her husband against allegations surrounding the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro, insisting that he neither raped nor killed the deceased.

Speaking in a video shared through Ogbonna’s social media platform, the woman, whose identity was not disclosed, acknowledged that her husband had a relationship with Favour but maintained that the relationship did not amount to rape.

Her intervention comes amid an ongoing police investigation into allegations involving Ogbonna and the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death.

Wife Acknowledges Affair, Rejects Rape Allegation

In the video, Ogbonna’s wife said she had closely followed developments surrounding the case before deciding to speak publicly.

She maintained that, based on her knowledge of the circumstances, her husband had not committed the offences alleged against him.

“Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody. I know my husband. Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl,” she said.

The distinction drawn by the woman between an alleged consensual affair and the allegation of rape represents her personal account of the circumstances and has not been judicially established.

The police investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings will ultimately determine whether criminal liability exists.

‘Social Media Is Not a Courtroom’

Ogbonna’s wife also appealed to members of the public to exercise restraint in discussing the case, warning against reaching conclusions based solely on information circulating online.

She argued that allegations and public reactions should not replace a formal investigation or judicial process.

“Social media is not a courtroom,” she said, urging the public not to allow emotions to determine guilt or innocence.

Her comments reflect a growing concern surrounding high-profile criminal allegations in the age of social media, where public narratives can develop rapidly before investigators complete their work or a case reaches court.

Under Nigerian law, allegations remain allegations until they are tested through the appropriate legal process and a competent court reaches a decision.

Eight Years of Marriage & a Public Show of Support

The woman also reaffirmed her loyalty to Ogbonna, saying their marriage had lasted eight years and produced four children.

She said the controversy surrounding the case had not changed her decision to stand by her husband.

“No matter what happened, Odogwu Asaba is my husband and I stand with him 100 per cent,” she said.

According to her, she believes Ogbonna should be allowed the opportunity to present his own account of events.

She further suggested that the public might not yet have access to all the facts surrounding the case.

Police Investigation Continues

Ogbonna remains at the centre of a police investigation following allegations that he raped Favour, who later died after reportedly ingesting a toxic substance.

The Delta State Police Command had earlier confirmed his arrest and indicated that the matter would proceed to court.

However, the police allegations have not yet resulted in a conviction, and Ogbonna remains legally presumed innocent unless and until a competent court determines otherwise.

Similarly, his wife’s assertion that the relationship between Ogbonna and Favour was consensual remains her account and has not been independently established through judicial proceedings.

Case Raises Questions About Due Process

The controversy has continued to generate significant attention, particularly on social media, where competing narratives have emerged around the circumstances of Favour’s death.

While public concern remains understandable because of the seriousness of the allegations, the eventual outcome will depend on the findings of investigators and, where applicable, the evidence presented before a court.

For now, the case remains one involving serious allegations, an ongoing investigation and conflicting accounts.

As police continue their work, the legal process is expected to determine the facts surrounding Favour Agbro’s death and whether Ogbonna bears any criminal responsibility.
