Major Anti-Cult Operations In Delta Lead To Arrests, Firearms Seizure

Coordinated Operations Target Cult Activities Across Delta
A series of intelligence-led security operations across Delta State has resulted in the arrest of 32 suspected cultists and the recovery of firearms and suspected illicit substances, as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to curb cult-related violence.
The operations, conducted in Agbarho and Azagba-Ogwashi, form part of an expanded security strategy aimed at dismantling criminal groups and preventing further attacks linked to cult rivalries.
Intelligence Leads Police to Suspected Cult Gathering
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit stormed a location in Agbarho where suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity were allegedly gathered.
Security sources said the suspects were believed to be preparing for an initiation exercise while also planning fresh attacks connected to ongoing cult-related conflicts in parts of the state.
The operation quickly escalated after officers reportedly came under attack from armed individuals at the scene.
Despite the resistance, the operatives secured the area and arrested 25 suspects.
Two of those arrested sustained injuries during the encounter and are currently receiving treatment.
Firearms and Evidence Recovered
During a search of the premises, officers recovered a pump-action shotgun and a cut-to-size firearm believed to have been used for criminal activities.
The seizure of the weapons is expected to assist investigators in tracing possible links between the suspects and previous violent incidents.
Authorities said investigations would also focus on identifying additional members of the network who escaped before the completion of the operation.
Anti-Cult Squad Records Additional Breakthrough
In another operation carried out days earlier, operatives from the Command Anti-Cultism Unit raided a suspected criminal base in Azagba-Ogwashi.
Seven suspects were arrested during the exercise, while law enforcement officers recovered a double-barrel gun, live ammunition, and suspected narcotics.
Police believe the arrests could provide useful intelligence in ongoing efforts to dismantle organised criminal groups operating within the area.
Sustained Pressure on Criminal Networks
Security experts have consistently identified cultism as one of the major drivers of violent crime in several communities across Delta State.
In response, the police have expanded surveillance, intelligence gathering, and targeted operations designed to weaken criminal organisations and prevent further violence.
The latest arrests and recoveries represent another significant step in those efforts, with authorities maintaining that operations will continue until all identified suspects are brought to justice.
Police have also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities capable of threatening peace and public safety.
