FG Raises Civil Servants’ Allowances, Introduces New Welfare Benefits

FG Approves Improved Welfare for Civil Servants
THE Federal Government has approved an upward review of allowances and introduced fresh welfare measures for civil servants in a move aimed at boosting morale, productivity and confidence in the public service.
The announcement was made in Abuja by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, during a press briefing on ongoing reforms in the sector.
Officials said the package forms part of broader efforts to reposition the civil service for greater efficiency and improved service delivery.
Key Allowances Reviewed Upward
According to the Head of Service, several benefits under the Public Service Rules have been revised upward.
They include Duty Tour Allowance (DTA), estacode and book allowance, among others.
She explained that the government considered rising living costs and the need to support workers carrying out official assignments and professional development.
100 Percent DTA for Approved Training
One of the major highlights of the reforms is the approval of full Duty Tour Allowance for civil servants attending approved training programmes.
This means officers participating in official training will receive 100 percent DTA even when the programme takes place within their duty location.
Officials said the decision is intended to encourage continuous learning, capacity building and workforce development.
New Retirement Exit Benefit Introduced
The government also approved a new exit benefit scheme for retiring civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
Under the arrangement, retirees will receive 100 percent of their total annual emoluments as an exit package in addition to their pension entitlements.
The policy takes effect from 1st January 2026, and is expected to improve retirement security for public workers.
