Eid Relief: Rail Passengers To Pay Half Fare Nationwide

FG Introduces 50% Train Fare Reduction For Eid-El-Kabir Travels
THE Federal Government has approved a 50 percent reduction in train fares across all services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), in a move aimed at easing transportation costs during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration period.
The policy, announced through the Federal Ministry of Transportation, is part of efforts to support Nigerians traveling for the festive season and reduce the financial burden of intercity movement.
Fare Cut Takes Effect Immediately
According to an official statement, the reduced fare regime commenced on Tuesday 26 May 2026, and will remain in effect until Monday 1st June 2026.
The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, and signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Osima Gift Seddon.
Under the new arrangement, passengers will pay half of the existing approved NRC ticket prices across all routes nationwide during the specified period.
Refunds And Ticket Adjustments
The ministry clarified that passengers who had already purchased tickets at full price before the announcement will not be disadvantaged.
Such passengers will be eligible for a 50 percent rebate, which can be used for train travel within the validity period ending 1st June 2026.
Officials also confirmed that train schedules and timetables will remain unchanged despite the fare adjustment.
Government Cites Public Welfare
The Federal Ministry of Transportation said the initiative reflects government’s commitment to easing mobility challenges during peak travel seasons.
It also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support of the railway system and extended Eid-El-Kabir greetings to Muslim faithful across the country.
