DSWMB Acting Chairman Charges PSP Operators On Abraka Cleanliness

DSWMB Moves to Strengthen Sanitation
IN a renewed effort to improve environmental hygiene, the Acting Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board (DSWMB), Felix Erhimedafe, has directed Private Sector Participants (PSPs) in Ethiope East Local Government Area to step up sanitation efforts in Abraka.
The move is part of ongoing initiatives to ensure cleaner communities and reduce environmental health risks across Delta State.
Mandate to Waste Contractors
Addressing waste management operators, Erhimedafe underscored the importance of efficient and timely waste evacuation.
He warned that failure to meet operational standards would attract sanctions, stressing that the state government is committed to maintaining high environmental standards.
According to him, PSP operators must ensure that waste does not accumulate in residential and commercial areas, particularly in busy towns like Abraka.
Health and Environmental Implications
The Acting Chairman pointed out that poor waste management could lead to outbreaks of diseases and environmental degradation.
He explained that maintaining a clean environment is not only essential for public health but also contributes to the socio-economic appeal of the area, especially as Abraka hosts a major academic institution and attracts a large population.
Building on Existing Efforts
Erhimedafe acknowledged previous collaborations between the DSWMB and local authorities, noting that such partnerships had improved waste management outcomes in the past.
He urged stakeholders to build on these gains by strengthening coordination and ensuring that all actors play their roles effectively.
Call for Community Participation
Beyond directives to PSP operators, the DSWMB boss appealed to residents to support sanitation efforts by disposing of waste responsibly.
He stressed that achieving a clean and healthy environment requires active participation from both service providers and the public.
Outlook: Sustaining Environmental Reforms
The renewed focus on sanitation in Abraka reflects a broader commitment by the Delta State Government to enforce environmental regulations and improve urban management.
Analysts note that sustained monitoring, enforcement, and public cooperation will be key to achieving long-term success in waste management across the state.
