Discipline: UniCal Charges Senior Staff Committee To Protect University Standards

THE University of Calabar has reconstituted its Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee as part of efforts to strengthen discipline and protect standards across the institution.
Speaking at the committee’s inauguration in Calabar on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Offiong Offiong said the university would continue to maintain zero tolerance for indiscipline.
The vice-chancellor, represented by his deputy, Prof. Ekaete Enang, said the new composition reflected balanced representation and renewed commitment to the committee’s responsibilities.
He noted that representatives of university management and the unions were included to promote fairness and build confidence in the disciplinary process.
Offiong urged members to handle their assignment with courage, fairness and a clear conscience, given the sensitive nature of disciplinary proceedings.
He added that the reconstituted committee would play an important role in addressing conduct capable of weakening standards in teaching, learning and administration.
At the same time, the university management pledged to provide the necessary support and environment for the committee to carry out its mandate.
The vice-chancellor also praised members of the previous committee for their contributions and service to the institution.
In his remarks, the committee’s chairman, Prof. Anthony Okiwelu, expressed appreciation to the vice-chancellor for the confidence placed in the new team.
Okiwelu urged members to remember that their decisions and conduct would reflect the values, standards and reputation of the university.
Serving alongside him are Prof. Abo Nta, Prof. Daniel Ama-Abasi, Dr. Stephen Demort, Dr. Alex Oko, Dr. John Inaku, Mr. Jonas Abuo and Fidelis Akpan.
