Diplomacy Prevails As Trump Calls Off Planned Military Action Against Iran

THE United States has stepped back from the brink of another military confrontation with Iran after President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of a planned attack, citing progress in negotiations between both countries.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said Iran had agreed to the main parameters of a new deal designed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz completely and resolve concerns surrounding its nuclear programme.
The US president said he accepted requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to suspend military action and allow diplomacy to move forward.
He described the planned operation as one that would have involved overwhelming military force but said it would now remain on hold while negotiations continue.
Mr. Trump also disclosed that Israel supported the decision to pursue a diplomatic solution, urging all parties to conclude the agreement without delay.
Before the announcement, the US government had warned American citizens in the Middle East to prepare for possible military escalation. The advisory encouraged travellers to consider leaving the region and warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace restrictions and wider travel disruptions.
Relations between Washington and Tehran have remained strained for months. Disagreements over Iran’s nuclear programme and control of the Strait of Hormuz intensified after earlier negotiations collapsed. Iran later shut the strategic shipping route, while the United States responded by expanding sanctions and strengthening its naval operations.
The prolonged conflict has disrupted regional stability and contributed to higher global oil prices. Sunday’s announcement marks a significant diplomatic opening, although the suspension of military action remains dependent on the successful completion of a final agreement between the parties.
