Delta Police Probe Influencer As Alleged Rape Case Turns Fatal

Suspect remains in custody as investigators examine allegations linking the alleged sexual assault of a 20-year-old woman to her subsequent death.
Content Creator Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Assault
THE Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations of rape linked to the death of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect remains in police custody while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
Police Investigate Circumstances of Victim’s Death
According to the police, the 40-year-old suspect allegedly invited the deceased from Ughelli to Asaba after offering to mentor her in digital content creation and help her monetise her social media platforms.
Human rights activist Israel Joe, who first publicised the case, alleged that the woman responded to online advertisements promoting content creation training and career opportunities before travelling to Asaba.
He claimed she later met the suspect at a hotel after being invited for what she believed would be a training session.
The activist further alleged that the woman had previously informed the suspect through WhatsApp messages that she was not interested in any romantic relationship.
Investigation Continues
According to Israel Joe, the woman later informed members of her family about the alleged incident after returning home.
He also alleged that the emotional trauma resulting from the incident preceded her death, which he claimed occurred after she allegedly ingested a poisonous substance.
The activist said he subsequently lodged a formal complaint with the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
He further claimed investigators confronted the suspect with alleged WhatsApp conversations exchanged between him and the deceased during questioning.
Police Appeal for Calm
The case has generated widespread public reactions on social media, with many calling for justice and a comprehensive investigation.
However, the Delta State Police Command urged members of the public to avoid speculation while investigations remain ongoing.
Police authorities said every aspect of the allegations, including the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death, is being investigated and assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
