Delta Police Nab Four Suspected Cultists During Oghara Patrol
Suspects Intercepted During Surveillance Operation
THE Delta State Police Command has arrested four persons suspected to be members of a cult group during a surveillance operation in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development on Tuesday in Warri, saying the suspects were apprehended by operatives attached to the Oghara Police Division during a routine patrol on Sunday.
Firearm and Ammunition Recovered
According to Edafe, the police team intercepted a Lexus RX330 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) conveying the suspects and subjected the occupants to a search.
He said the search led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size firearm and one live cartridge allegedly found inside the vehicle.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the recovered items and any possible links to criminal activities.
Police Reaffirm Crackdown on Cultism
Edafe stated that the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Mr. Yemi Oyeniyi, has reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating across the state.
He said the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing strategies and proactive security operations aimed at combating cult-related activities and reducing the proliferation of illegal firearms.
Residents Urged to Support Security Efforts
The police also appealed to residents to support ongoing crime-fighting efforts by providing timely, credible and actionable information capable of preventing criminal activities and assisting security agencies in identifying suspects.
According to the command, sustained collaboration between the police and members of the public remains essential to safeguarding lives and property across Delta State.
