Delta Moves to Revamp Nursery, Primary Schools as 2026/2027 Session Begins
THE Delta State Government has ordered an assessment of nursery and primary schools across the state to identify facilities requiring urgent rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades.
The decision came at the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, August 31, 2026. It forms part of the government’s efforts to improve learning conditions as the 2026/2027 academic session gets underway.
Under the approved plan, relevant authorities will inspect schools across the state. They will identify buildings and facilities that require repairs, rehabilitation or other forms of intervention.
The exercise will enable the government to determine the scale of work needed in each school. It is also expected to help officials prioritise schools facing the most urgent infrastructure challenges.
The government said the intervention would improve the physical environment for pupils and teachers. Better classrooms and essential facilities could also support more effective teaching and learning.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council approved other projects outside the education sector.
The council approved the construction of 12 additional duplexes for Permanent Secretaries. The decision forms part of measures aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of senior civil servants.
It also approved additional legislative quarters for nine lawmakers representing newly created constituencies in the state.
Together, the decisions reflect the administration’s wider infrastructure programme. The government is seeking to address gaps in public facilities while strengthening institutions and improving service delivery.
For the education sector, however, the immediate priority remains clear: identifying schools that need intervention and moving from assessment to actual rehabilitation before infrastructure deficiencies further affect pupils and teachers.
