Delta Holds Monthly Sanitation Saturday, Allows Movement Over Exams

DELTA State will hold its September 2026 environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday 26 September, with residents expected to clean and maintain their surroundings.
The exercise will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. across the state.
Unlike previous sanitation exercises that may involve movement restrictions, the government said residents will be free to move around during the exercise.
This is because the Basic Education Certificate Examination (Resit) is currently taking place across Delta State.
Nevertheless, the government urged residents to take advantage of the three-hour period to improve the cleanliness of their immediate environment.
Among other things, residents were advised to cut and clear overgrown weeds around their premises.
They were also encouraged to desilt drainage channels and dispose of refuse properly.
According to the government, these measures will help prevent blocked drains and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.
Residents are also expected to maintain cleanliness within a 20-metre radius of their premises.
Furthermore, officials from the Ministry, led by the Honourable Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, will work with relevant authorities to monitor the exercise across the state.
The monitoring is aimed at encouraging compliance and ensuring that communities participate effectively.
Beyond Saturday’s exercise, the government reminded residents that environmental cleanliness is a continuous responsibility.
It therefore urged households and businesses to maintain their surroundings regularly instead of waiting for the monthly sanitation day.
The government, meanwhile, thanked residents for their continued cooperation and support in promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Delta State.
