Asagba Names Drug Rehabilitation Centre After Late Odogwu Ahaba

Monarch Immortalises Community Icon
HIS Royal Majesty, Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, has immortalised the late Odogwu Ahaba, Obi Peter Nwanze Oduah, by naming a newly commissioned drug rehabilitation centre in his honour.
The announcement was made during the official unveiling of the facility in Asaba, a project driven by the community to address growing concerns over drug abuse and related social challenges.
Community-Led Response to Drug Abuse
The rehabilitation centre, built and equipped through collective efforts of the Asaba community, is aimed at tackling substance abuse and supporting affected individuals.
Speaking at the event, the monarch stressed the importance of proactive community involvement in addressing social issues, particularly among youths.
Tribute to a Legacy of Service
Asagba Azinge highlighted the contributions of the late Obi Nwanze Oduah, noting his commitment to combating crime and drug abuse during his lifetime.
He said naming the facility after him serves as a lasting recognition of his efforts and a reminder of the values he upheld.
Stakeholders Commended for Support
The monarch commended various groups and individuals for their roles in bringing the project to fruition, including the Asdev 81 Club, Asaba Ladies League, and the Prof. Luke Anyanwu-led Healthcare Development Committee.
He also acknowledged the Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation Committee for completing the initiative.
Call for Collective Action
The Asagba called on organisations and institutions to partner with the centre, emphasising that addressing drug abuse requires sustained collaboration.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, represented by State Commander Halilu Hamidu, described the facility as the first of its kind in Delta State and pledged support for its operations.
Addressing Urbanisation Challenges
Chairman of the rehabilitation committee, Dr. Ifeanyi Uraih, linked the rise in drug abuse to rapid urbanisation following Asaba’s designation as Delta State capital.
He expressed optimism that the centre would provide critical support for affected individuals and serve as a model for other communities.
