Asaba Town Planning Committee Intensifies Sensitisation, Warns Defaulters Ahead Of Sanctions
Residents, landlords and business owners urged to embrace environmental sanitation and town planning regulations as authorities prepare to enforce compliance after the expiration of a 21-day notice.
Asaba Urban Renewal Campaign Expands to More Communities
THE Asaba Town Planning Regulatory Committee has intensified its public sensitisation campaign, extending its advocacy to Umuekwo and Umuanupkosi villages in Umuezei Quarters as part of ongoing efforts to promote compliance with urban planning regulations across the Asaba Kingdom.
The campaign, conducted on 20 July, forms part of a broader initiative aimed at educating residents, landlords and business owners on the importance of maintaining a clean, orderly and modern environment in line with the development vision of the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge.
Leading the exercise, the committee’s Chairman, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka, and members of the committee visited major streets and commercial centres within the communities to engage stakeholders on the need to comply with approved planning standards.
Committee Advocates Orderly Physical Development
During the sensitisation exercise, the committee highlighted the importance of environmental sanitation, proper waste disposal and the removal of illegal structures that obstruct orderly urban development.
Property owners and business operators were advised to ensure that their buildings, shops and commercial activities conform to approved town planning regulations designed to preserve the city’s aesthetic appeal and improve public safety.
According to the committee, compliance with the regulations would contribute to creating a healthier environment for residents while enhancing Asaba’s status as a rapidly growing state capital.
Authorities Stress Awareness Before Enforcement
The committee explained that the campaign was primarily intended to promote public awareness and voluntary compliance rather than impose immediate penalties.
Members encouraged residents to actively support the ongoing urban renewal programme by maintaining clean surroundings, avoiding indiscriminate refuse disposal and complying with all planning directives issued by the relevant authorities.
They noted that the initiative aligns with the traditional institution’s vision of transforming Asaba into a modern, environmentally sustainable and well-planned city.
Defaulters Face Sanctions After Grace Period
The sensitisation team later visited Umuaji Quarters, where the committee reviewed compliance levels among property owners previously served notices.
Chairman Eluaka commended landlords and business owners who had already complied with earlier directives but expressed concern that some property owners were yet to take corrective measures.
He disclosed that once the stipulated 21-day compliance period expires, formal sanction notices would be issued by the appropriate authorities to defaulting property owners.
The committee said the sensitisation campaign would continue across additional quarters and villages as efforts intensify to ensure widespread adherence to town planning regulations throughout the Asaba Kingdom.
