APC Primaries Crisis: Tinubu Brokers Truce, Orders Internal Review Of Disputed Results

Growing Crisis Over APC Primaries Triggers Presidential Intervention
THE dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries has escalated into a national party issue, prompting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in to manage rising tensions across several states.
The intervention follows widespread complaints from aspirants and stakeholders alleging irregularities in the conduct and outcome of the party’s nomination exercises.
Lagos Primaries at Centre of Controversy
Lagos State has emerged as the focal point of the dispute, with allegations of manipulated results in several constituencies, including Mushin, Agege II, and Ojokoro.
Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, reportedly challenged the credibility of the outcomes, insisting that some candidates who were declared winners were not the actual victors of the primaries.
Her position gained traction among aggrieved aspirants who demanded a review of the process.
Protest Averted After Presidential Directive
Following concerns over a planned protest, the President reportedly ordered a suspension of public demonstrations linked to the primaries in Lagos.
The directive is said to be part of a broader effort to allow internal party mechanisms to address complaints without escalating tensions further.
Party insiders confirmed that all grievances will be reviewed upon the President’s return to Abuja after the holiday period.
National Leadership Takes Control of Dispute Resolution
The APC national leadership has stepped in to clarify that no primary results are final until all appeal processes are concluded.
State chapters, including Lagos, have been instructed to align with national directives as the party seeks to stabilise internal structures ahead of future elections.
Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, confirmed that the state leadership will comply fully with decisions taken at the national level.
Fault Lines Within the Party Emerge
Beyond Lagos, concerns are growing about internal divisions and allegations of manipulation in the primaries process, with some party figures accusing rival factions of attempting to dominate candidate selection.
Despite the disputes, party officials maintain that ongoing review processes will resolve outstanding issues and preserve unity within the APC ahead of upcoming elections.
