Akwa Ibom Police Raid Criminal Hideouts, Recover Vandalised Electrical Materials

Police Intensify Crackdown on Theft and Infrastructure Vandalism
THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime following the recovery of stolen items and the arrest of suspects linked to transformer cable vandalism and other criminal activities across parts of the state.
The operation, according to police authorities, formed part of renewed security measures aimed at protecting public infrastructure, curbing economic sabotage, and addressing rising concerns over vandalism and theft in several communities.
Security operatives reportedly acted on intelligence and community reports before carrying out coordinated raids that led to the arrest of suspects allegedly involved in vandalising electricity installations and dealing in stolen property.
Transformer Cable Theft Raises Concerns
Police authorities expressed concern over the increasing cases of transformer cable theft and vandalism, describing the trend as a major threat to electricity supply and economic activities within affected communities.
Investigators said stolen cables and electrical components recovered from suspects were believed to have been removed from public power infrastructure, causing outages and financial losses.
The police noted that vandalism of electrical installations not only disrupts businesses and households but also undermines government efforts to improve power supply and public services.
Residents in some affected communities reportedly commended the police for responding swiftly, saying repeated attacks on transformers and power equipment had plunged several areas into darkness.
Recovered Items and Ongoing Investigations
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered electrical cables, transformer components, and other suspected stolen goods believed to have been taken from various locations within the state.
Police authorities disclosed that investigations were ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate and possible buyers of vandalised materials.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal networks involved in vandalism, burglary, and theft, warning scrap dealers and receivers of stolen goods against patronising criminals.
Police Seek Public Cooperation
The Akwa Ibom Police Command urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information capable of preventing crimes and protecting public assets.
Authorities also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around power installations and government facilities.
The police assured the public that suspects found culpable after investigations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
