AEDC Announces 2-Day Blackout In Abuja Over Infrastructure Relocation Works

Planned Disruption for Infrastructure Upgrade
RESIDENTS of Lugbe, Airport Road, Gaduwa and surrounding districts in Abuja are set to experience a two-day power interruption following an announcement by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The utility provider disclosed via its verified X (formerly Twitter) account that electricity supply will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday as part of ongoing infrastructure relocation works.
According to AEDC, the outage is necessary to allow technical teams to relocate critical electricity installations along key distribution feeders in the affected areas.
Why the Power Will Be Cut
The company explained that the disruption is linked to the relocation of major electrical infrastructure along the 33kV feeders H21 and H23, as well as the 11kV feeder H1A located in the Gaduwa district.
The exercise is being carried out at the request of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to support ongoing road construction and other public infrastructure projects in the area.
AEDC stated that the relocation is essential to prevent damage to electrical assets and ensure safety during construction activities.
Affected Areas and Restoration Timeline
The outage will affect multiple communities, including Lugbe, Airport Road corridor, and Gaduwa district.
AEDC assured residents that power supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the relocation exercise.
The company also apologised for the inconvenience, noting that the disruption is temporary and part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure reliability in the capital.
