ADC Screening Exercise Produces 212 Casualties Ahead Of 2027 Primaries

ADC Intensifies Internal Screening Ahead of 2027 Elections
THE African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stepped up preparations for the 2027 general elections with the clearance of 1,657 aspirants for its forthcoming primary elections, while 212 others were disqualified during the party’s nationwide screening exercise.
The exercise, conducted across the country, covered aspirants seeking tickets for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly positions.
Party leaders described the process as part of broader efforts to strengthen internal democracy and ensure that only qualified aspirants emerge for elective positions.
Leadership Defends Screening Process
ADC National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, said the exercise was carried out under strict compliance with the party’s constitution and electoral procedures.
He noted that screening committees were inaugurated in all states and the Federal Capital Territory to supervise the process and assess aspirants’ eligibility.
According to the party, the exercise was peaceful and orderly despite the large number of aspirants seeking clearance across various categories.
Political observers believe the move signals the party’s attempt to project organisational discipline as competition intensifies ahead of the elections.
Why Some Aspirants Failed
The ADC explained that the disqualified aspirants failed to meet critical requirements necessary for participation in the party primaries.
Among the reasons cited were inconsistencies in submitted personal documents, questionable academic records, lack of valid membership identification, and breaches of stipulated nomination guidelines.
Out of the affected aspirants, the majority were those contesting State House of Assembly seats, while others involved National Assembly hopefuls.
The development has generated discussions within political circles about the increasing importance of compliance and documentation in party nomination processes.
Opposition Politics Gathering Momentum
The screening exercise comes at a period of growing political activity within opposition parties as alliances, internal negotiations and candidate positioning continue ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ADC has in recent weeks intensified consultations and screening exercises involving governorship and presidential aspirants, while party leaders continue to emphasise transparency and due process.
Analysts say the outcome of the screening exercise may shape internal party dynamics ahead of the primaries, especially in states where competition for tickets remains intense.
The party leadership, however, insisted that the exercise was aimed at producing credible candidates capable of strengthening the ADC’s electoral prospects nationwide.
