THE United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation have trained journalists from Nigeria’s South-East, South-South, and North-Central regions on ethical journalism and child rights reporting.
The two-day workshop, held at Golden Tulip Hotel in Port Harcourt, aimed to enhance journalists’ capacity to report children’s issues with accuracy, fairness, and respect for human dignity.
Speaking at the event, Falayi Temitoye, who represented the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Chinasa Ogbodo, underscored the media’s power to shape public perception and influence policy, urging reporters to prioritize sensitivity and integrity in coverage involving children.
She stressed that ethical reporting protects children’s welfare, warning that “every image and word published can have lasting consequences on a child’s life and safety.”
