Floods Paralyse Lagos After Heavy Downpour
By TAYO TAIWO (T.T.) OLUWOLE
A heavy downpour on Wednesday morning left several parts of Lagos flooded, submerging streets and disrupting movement across the city.
Areas hit include Ago Palace Way, Apple Junction, Ago Bridge, and Mile 2, where vehicles and motorcycles struggled to wade through waterlogged roads. Videos shared on social media showed rising floodwaters clogging gutters and causing major traffic congestion.
Residents blamed both government failures and community habits for the perennial problem. Some cited poor refuse collection and inadequate drainage, while others stressed the need for citizens to stop dumping waste in gutters.
Despite ongoing efforts to expand canals and clear drains, the flooding highlighted Lagos’s persistent struggle with urban planning and waste management during the rainy season.
