GLOBAL leaders from the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and European Union (EU) have renewed their joint pledge to strengthen peace and sustainable development efforts across Africa.
In a communiqué issued after their sixth trilateral meeting in New York, the organisations vowed deeper cooperation to end conflicts, support stability, and address global challenges including debt, climate change, and migration.
They highlighted ongoing crises in Sudan, the Sahel, Libya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Somalia, calling for ceasefires, inclusive dialogue, and sustainable financing for peace operations.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the UN’s 2030 Agenda, stressing the need to reform global financial systems and boost investment in climate-resilient development.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres described Africa as “unstoppable,” urging greater investment in renewable energy, agriculture, and digital infrastructure, while advocating stronger African representation in global governance.
