THE Chairman of the Sports Promotion Committee, Ogbueshi Wing Commander Peter Iweze (Rtd.), has expressed satisfaction with the progress made in preparations for the upcoming Asaba International Road Race, scheduled for 4th October 2025. Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Prof. Chike Edozien (Asagba Azinge), Iweze revealed that the race has advanced to the marketing and publicity stage, with posters already displayed across the city.
He noted that part of the committee’s mission is to project the monarch as a sports enthusiast and symbol of unity for the people. According to him, promotional materials featuring photographs of the Asagba will soon be released, showcasing his passion for sports and encouraging residents to align with the vision of the race. He explained that such visibility would not only generate excitement but also rally broad community support for the event.
The Asagba of Asaba warmly welcomed the delegation, commending the committee for its dedication and the milestones achieved so far. He emphasised that the primary aim of the Asaba International Road Race is to position Asaba as a global brand, using sports as a unifying and promotional tool. He expressed delight that the event has been certified to hold for the next five years, a development he described as an opportunity for better planning, stronger organisation, and greater international visibility.
HRM further encouraged the committee to leverage this long-term certification to attract global sponsorship and partnerships that will elevate the race to world-class standards. He underscored the importance of inclusivity, stressing that all stakeholders must work in unity to ensure the success of the competition.
Concluding his remarks, the monarch praised the leadership of Wing Commander Iweze and his team for their vision and consistency, urging them to remain focused and committed. He reassured them of his full support, adding that the race is not just a sporting event but also a legacy project that will strengthen Asaba’s identity on the global stage.
