Asaba Women By Marriage Commended For Supporting Their Husbands To Drive Community Development
ASABA women by marriage, also known as Ikpoho Ogbe, have been commended for supporting their husbands in the new vision of branding the community.
The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, gave the commendation when a delegation of Ikpoho Obi Mogbue, from Umuonaje Quarters, paid him a courtesy visit.
He said the development of Asaba, through self–help, was the collective responsibility of all sons and daughters of the community, stressing that Asaba women by marriage were also critical stakeholders because their husbands would always need their support to be able to contribute their quotas.
The Asagba highlighted the steps he had taken, since ascending the throne, to enhance the welfare of the people, and ensure that Asaba remained peaceful and safe for indigenes and non-indigenes alike, explaining that Asaba had become the preferred destination to people from different parts of the country, as well as a safe haven for investment.
He said the women had a role to play in sustaining the prevailing peace in the land, urging them to shun bitterness and rancour and support the peace building efforts of the Committee headed by the Omu of Asaba, which had succeeded in resolving conflicts among Umu Ada Ogbe.
His Royal Majesty decried the increasing rate of drug addiction and cultism in the capital city, which he noted was destroying the future of the youth, describing the situation as worrisome and unacceptable under his watch.
Asagba Prof. Azinge attributed the ugly trend to moral decadence and peer group influence, which had taken their toll on the younger generation of Asaba people, and urged the women to closely monitor the activities of their children and inculcate in them the right values that would make them responsible members of the community and the larger society.
The First Class traditional ruler reiterated that he was on the throne to make a difference in the life of the people and would stop at nothing to achieve that, assuring Asaba women that their role in that regard would not be taken for granted.
In an address read on their behalf by Mrs Ebele Oduah, the Ikpoho Obi Mogbue belatedly congratulated Asagba Prof Azinge on his ascension to the throne as the 14th Asagba of Asaba, describing it as a significant milestone in his Ife and in the history of the Asaba kingdom.
The women acknowledged the Asagba’s purposeful leadership and his efforts in conflict resolution, community development, cultural preservation and the construction of the community’s permanent palace building, and prayed God to grant him the wisdom and understanding to rule Asaba people and make his reign peaceful and successful.
