Enang Begins Germany Mission, Seeks Stronger Nigeria Partnership

NIGERIA’S new Ambassador to Germany, Senator Ita Solomon Enang, has officially begun his diplomatic assignment after presenting his Letters of Credence to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.
The ceremony marked the formal recognition of Enang as Nigeria’s envoy to Germany. It included a military welcome, the signing of the accreditation register and the presentation of his credentials.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Enang and President Steinmeier held talks on strengthening bilateral relations. Their discussions focused on trade, investment, energy, technology transfer and industrial cooperation.
Enang called for deeper collaboration in Nigeria’s power sector. He highlighted opportunities in off-grid electricity projects and the ongoing Siemens power initiative. He also urged greater German participation in gas utilisation projects aimed at converting flared gas into electricity and other productive uses.
The ambassador encouraged German manufacturers to establish vehicle and machinery assembly plants in Nigeria. He said local production would create jobs, develop technical skills and strengthen the country’s industrial capacity.
Both leaders also discussed agriculture, food production and wider investment opportunities. Enang stressed that Nigeria remains open to credible investors willing to support economic growth and infrastructure development.
The talks extended to skilled migration. Enang proposed a structured labour mobility agreement that would allow qualified Nigerians to work legally in Germany in fields such as medicine, engineering, information technology, artificial intelligence and technical trades.
Regional security and West African cooperation also featured during the meeting. The discussions covered Nigeria’s role within ECOWAS and efforts to strengthen collaboration across the West African and Sahel regions.
The ambassador further raised issues relating to the Green Tree Agreement, including boundary demarcation and humanitarian concerns affecting communities around the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
Enang thanked Germany for its continued humanitarian support to Nigeria. Both countries also expressed interest in expanding diplomatic engagement through future high-level visits between Presidents Bola Tinubu and Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The presentation of credentials formally authorises Ambassador Enang to represent Nigeria and promote the country’s political, economic and strategic interests in Germany.
