Kogi University Enforces Disciplinary Code, Expels Two & Rusticates Four Students

THE management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has expelled two students and rusticated four others for one academic session following separate disciplinary cases involving alleged violations of the institution’s code of conduct.
The disciplinary measures were contained in separate letters addressed to the affected students and signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr. Eli Gbadafu. According to the university, the decisions followed recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee and were subsequently approved during the 31st regular meeting of the institution’s Senate.
The university stated that the sanctions were imposed in accordance with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025, emphasizing that disciplinary actions are guided by the institution’s established regulations.
According to the letters, the two students expelled from the university are Onumoko Hamza of the Department of Biology Education and Abdulazeez Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering. The university said both students were found guilty, following disciplinary investigations, of conduct it described as “gay practice,” an offence prohibited under the institution’s regulations.
In a separate disciplinary action, the university rusticated four students for one academic session over their involvement in a fight on campus. Those affected are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology, and Zainab Omayoza and Sukura Bukola, both of the Department of Biochemistry.
The management said the sanctions reflect its determination to maintain discipline, order and an environment conducive to teaching, learning and research. It added that violations of the institution’s rules would continue to attract appropriate sanctions in line with existing regulations.
The university also urged students to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the institution’s values and disciplinary standards.
