Historic Royal Visit Deepens Inter-Kingdom Relations
HIS Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, FICMC, LLD(HC), KSJI, KSG, the Asagba of Asaba, has paid a historic visit to His Royal Majesty, Prof. Louis Chelunor Nwaoboshi, the Obuzor of Ibusa Kingdom, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, in a move aimed at strengthening peace, unity and cooperation between the two neighbouring kingdoms.
The landmark visit, described by both monarchs as a significant moment in the history of the two communities, underscored a shared commitment to fostering cordial relations and addressing long-standing issues through dialogue rather than confrontation.
Monarchs Advocate Peaceful Resolution of Boundary Issues
Speaking during the visit, Asagba Azinge expressed appreciation to the Obuzor of Ibusa and members of the Ibusa Palace Chiefs for the warm reception accorded to him and his entourage. He also commended Chief Fred Chijindu Ajudua, the Onwa of Ibusa Kingdom, and his wife, Chief Dr. Hon. Princess Patience Ajudua, for their role in facilitating what he described as an epoch-making engagement.
According to the Asagba, the relationship between Asaba and Ibusa extends beyond geographical proximity, reflecting decades of shared history, family ties and cultural affinity.
He noted that the visit was intended to consolidate the existing bond between both kingdoms while promoting cultural diplomacy as a mechanism for sustaining peaceful coexistence.
The monarch stressed that peace remains invaluable and should be protected through continuous dialogue, mutual respect and institutional cooperation.
Joint Committee to Address Boundary Delineation
As part of the outcomes of the meeting, both royal fathers agreed to establish a joint committee that would examine boundary-related concerns not only between Asaba and Ibusa but also among other communities within Anioma land.
The initiative is expected to provide a structured platform for resolving disputes through consultation and consensus while preventing issues capable of undermining regional harmony.
Asagba Azinge described the engagement as the beginning of sustained collaboration between the two kingdoms and prayed for a peaceful and prosperous reign for the Obuzor of Ibusa.
Obuzor Hails Visit as Historic Milestone
Welcoming his guest, the Obuzor of Ibusa, Prof. Louis Chelunor Nwaoboshi, described the visit as historic and unprecedented, saying it represented a turning point in relations between the two kingdoms.
He disclosed that both traditional institutions had already agreed on frameworks for continuous engagement on boundary matters, emphasizing that Asaba and Ibusa should remain united despite administrative or territorial concerns.
According to him, issues relating to boundaries should never be allowed to weaken the longstanding relationship shared by both communities.
Council Chairman Commends Initiative
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Innocent Esewezie, described the visit as the first by an Asagba of Asaba to the palace of the Obuzor of Ibusa.
He commended Asagba Azinge for initiating discussions on sensitive boundary matters and urged that similar engagements should be extended to other neighbouring communities within the Delta State capital territory.
He also praised Chief Fred Ajudua for his leadership and contributions towards the successful organisation of the visit.
The event concluded with prayers for lasting peace, unity and sustainable development across Asaba, Ibusa and the wider Anioma region, followed by a symbolic group photograph.
