Oborevwori Reaffirms Support For Stronger Local Governments In Delta

Support for Local Government Reaffirmed
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening local government administration, describing grassroots governance as central to sustainable development across the state.
The governor gave the assurance during the inauguration of a Chairman’s Office Complex and a Chapel at the Udu Local Government Council headquarters in Otor-Udu, an event held to commemorate the council’s second anniversary under Chairman Vincent Oyibode.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, Oborevwori praised local government councils for complementing the state’s development agenda through projects that directly benefit communities.
MORE Agenda Reflected in Council Projects
The governor said the newly commissioned facilities demonstrate prudent use of public resources and a commitment to improving governance.
He noted that the office complex would strengthen administrative efficiency by providing a better environment for policy implementation and service delivery, while the chapel would encourage ethical leadership founded on integrity, compassion and reverence for God.
Oborevwori maintained that his administration would continue supporting initiatives that promote stronger institutions and accelerate grassroots development under the MORE Agenda.
Council Reports Development Milestones
Presenting his stewardship report, Udu Local Government Chairman Vincent Oyibode said the council had implemented programmes focused on six strategic areas: healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, employment generation and transparency.
According to him, the achievements recorded over the past two years have enhanced residents’ quality of life and strengthened confidence in local government administration.
He added that the council remains committed to consolidating the progress already made while pursuing additional projects that respond to the needs of the people.
Stakeholders Urged to Sustain Progress
Governor Oborevwori encouraged the council leadership to maintain its development momentum by prioritising projects with measurable social and economic impact.
He also urged residents to protect public facilities and continue supporting government initiatives aimed at improving their communities.
Oyibode, in turn, thanked residents, traditional leaders and stakeholders for their encouragement and cooperation, assuring them that the council would remain focused on delivering effective and accountable governance.
Among those present at the event was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kelly Penawou, as well as other government officials and community stakeholders.
