INEC Explains Step-By-Step Process For Online PVC Registration

Online Platform Targets Faster Voter Registration
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched a digital self-service platform aimed at making voter registration more convenient by allowing eligible Nigerians to complete much of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration process online.
The initiative forms part of the Commission’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) programme and seeks to reduce queues at registration centres while improving access to electoral services.
To encourage wider participation, INEC has extended the current CVR exercise until 24 July 2026, providing additional time for eligible citizens to register or update their voter information.
Simple Registration Process
Applicants begin by creating an account on the INEC Self-Service CVR Portal using their names, phone number, email address and password.
The portal then requires users to verify their National Identification Number (NIN) before completing a detailed online registration form containing personal, educational and residential information.
Applicants also choose their preferred polling unit by selecting their state, local government area, ward and polling location.
Biometric Capture Required
As part of the registration process, INEC requires applicants to capture their passport photograph and fingerprints through its official mobile application.
The portal provides a QR code and smartphone link to enable users to complete biometric enrolment before reviewing and submitting their application.
Applicants are advised to carefully verify all information before final submission to avoid delays or errors during processing.
Multiple Electoral Services Available
Apart from new voter registration, the platform offers several additional services, including:
- Transfer to another polling unit.
- Correction or update of personal details.
- Replacement of lost, stolen or damaged PVCs.
- Tracking of submitted applications.
- Location of designated PVC collection centres.
These services are intended to improve voter convenience and strengthen the efficiency of electoral administration.
Pre-Registration Option Still Available
INEC explained that applicants without a National Identification Number, or those who prefer physical biometric enrolment, can still utilise the Commission’s pre-registration option.
Under this process, applicants complete their biodata online, book an appointment and subsequently visit an INEC registration centre to capture fingerprints and photographs.
The Commission said the arrangement significantly reduces processing time at registration centres by ensuring that much of the registration information has already been completed before the applicant’s scheduled visit.
