Nigeria Swimming Team Strengthened As Police Release Two Elite Athletes
Boost for Team Nigeria
THE Nigeria Aquatics Federation has welcomed the Nigeria Police Force’s decision to release Corporal Collins Ebinga and Corporal Dorcas Oka to participate in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, saying the move reinforces national efforts to build a competitive Team Nigeria for Glasgow.
The swimmers, who are members of the Nigeria Police Force, will join the country’s swimming delegation for the Games scheduled to hold between 23 July and 2 August.
Recognition for Commitment to Sports
Reacting to the development, NAqF President Lekan Fatodu commended Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu for supporting elite athletes serving within the Force.
He described the approval as an example of institutional backing that enables athletes to balance public service with international sporting responsibilities.
Fatodu added that such support reflects the growing collaboration between security institutions and sports federations in promoting talent development and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness at major international championships.
He also praised DCP Bello, Chairman of the Police Swimming Association, for his continued investment in discovering and developing swimming talents within the Police Force.
Focus Turns to Glasgow
The federation urged the two swimmers to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering strong performances in Scotland.
Fatodu encouraged the athletes to compete with integrity, resilience and commitment while proudly representing Nigeria on the Commonwealth stage.
Nigeria’s swimming team for the Games comprises Abduljabar Adama, Collins Ebinga, Clinton Opute and Dorcas Oka, with officials expressing confidence that the quartet can make a positive impact against some of the Commonwealth’s strongest swimming nations.
