Senate Primary Controversy Deepens As Omo-Agege Challenges Reported Result

Primary Dispute Sparks Fresh Political Controversy
FORMER Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed reports circulating online that he lost the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary for Delta Central, describing the claims as fabricated, politically driven, and misleading.
He insists the narrative of defeat does not reflect the actual outcome of the exercise, arguing that he emerged victorious but that the result is yet to be officially released by party authorities.
Claims of Victory Amid Waiting Game for Official Declaration
According to Omo-Agege, the responsibility for announcing primary results lies solely with the national leadership of the NDC, not social media platforms or unofficial sources.
He maintained that the delay in formal announcement has created room for misinformation and speculation about the outcome.
“I won the primaries, but we are waiting for it to be formally announced,” he stated, insisting that the final verdict remains within the party’s official structures.
Allegations of Political Manipulation and Online Attacks
The former Deputy Senate President attributed the circulating reports to what he described as coordinated political attacks by opponents following his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He accused unnamed actors of deliberately spreading falsehoods to undermine his political standing and influence within Delta Central.
“How can I be defeated? By who?” he asked, rejecting claims of loss as politically motivated distortion.
Support Base and Cross-Party Influence
Omo-Agege further argued that his political strength remains intact, citing what he described as strong grassroots support across Delta Central Senatorial District.
He also claimed that his influence cuts across party lines, reinforcing his assertion that the reported outcome does not align with political realities on the ground.
Background of Electoral Disputes
Reports had earlier suggested that Omo-Agege lost the NDC Delta Central senatorial ticket to Olorogun Bernice Dema, claims he has repeatedly rejected.
His position follows previous disputes in the APC primaries, where Senator Ede Dafinone was declared winner, a result Omo-Agege also contested before exiting the party.
