Police Nab Three Armed Suspects, Recover Guns At Asaba Head Bridge

Routine patrol operation leads to seizure of pump-action guns and live cartridges at Delta–Anambra boundary.
OPERATIVES of the Buffalo Patrol Team of the Delta State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms during a stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge in Asaba.
The arrest, which occurred on 6 May 2026 around 7:06 p.m., followed routine security checks at the strategic boundary between Delta State and Anambra State.
Suspicious Vehicle Intercepted
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, operatives on patrol intercepted a black Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with registration number ABJ 254 CD for routine inspection.
He said the occupants of the vehicle were identified as Chukwu Emeka Okeke (30), Ndudo Tochukwu (37), and Oraka Kaosiso Chukwu (34).
“Acting on reasonable suspicion, the operatives carried out a detailed search of the vehicle,” Edafe stated.
Weapons Recovered During Search
The police spokesperson disclosed that the search led to the recovery of two pump-action guns and seven rounds of live cartridges concealed in the vehicle.
The suspects were immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the recovered weapons were secured as exhibits for further investigation.
Authorities confirmed that both the suspects and the exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Police Commend Vigilance
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their alertness and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations aimed at curbing the circulation of illegal arms and tackling criminal activities across the state.
Security analysts say such routine operations remain critical in preventing armed robbery and other violent crimes, particularly along inter-state transit routes.
