Governor Pays Tribute to Centenarian
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid glowing tribute to Mrs. Esther Ahon as she marked her 100th birthday, describing her as a symbol of discipline, kindness, and exemplary motherhood.
The governor, represented by Ughelli North Council Chairman, Jaro Egbo, spoke during a thanksgiving service held at Bishop Agori-Iwe Memorial Anglican Church in Ughelli.
A Life of Values and Inspiration
Oborevwori noted that the centenarian’s life reflects dignity, humility, and moral strength, qualities he said continue to inspire both present and future generations.
He emphasised that the celebration was not only about longevity but also about the enduring values she represents—particularly her dedication to family and her role in raising responsible children.
Recognition of Elderly Citizens
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens, stressing that society must continue to honour and support its elders.
He added that titles such as “Okpakorere,” a revered community recognition, carry deeper meaning than political honours, as they reflect lifelong impact and moral authority.
Clergy, Family Highlight Her Legacy
In his sermon, Venerable Oghomena Diakeleho-Edjere described Mrs. Ahon as a devout Christian known for her consistency and commitment to church activities.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Moses Ahon expressed gratitude to God for the milestone, noting that she is the first in the family to reach 100 years.
Celebration of a Remarkable Milestone
The centenary event featured thanksgiving, prayers, and tributes, followed by a reception attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community members.
The celebration culminated in the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake, marking a joyful end to a historic occasion.
