Police Bust Alleged Kidnap Syndicate In Delta

Tactical team acts on intelligence
THE Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers in separate operations carried out in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development while briefing journalists on Sunday in Warri.
According to Edafe, the arrests were made by the command’s tactical team following credible intelligence on the activities of a suspected kidnapping syndicate.
Suspects linked to attacks on commuters
He explained that the first suspect was apprehended on 24 April in the Ekuigbo area of Ughelli.
Investigators believe the suspect is connected to a gang allegedly responsible for terrorising travellers and commuters along the busy Ughelli–Warri Road.
Edafe said further interrogation of the first suspect led operatives to a second suspect, who was later arrested at Trailer Park on the Warri–Sapele Road.
Weapon recovered, probe continues
The police spokesman added that officers recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 36 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from the suspects.
He said both men are currently in police custody while investigations continue to identify other members of the syndicate and possible victims.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across Delta State.
