Oborevwori Hails Akpomudje’s Emergence As Body Of Benchers Chairman

Governor Applauds Monarch’s Elevation to Legal Leadership
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, Albert Akpomudje, on his emergence as the 54th Chairman of the Body of Benchers.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor described the development as a moment of pride not only for Olomu Kingdom but for Delta State at large.
A Recognition of Professional Excellence
Oborevwori noted that the appointment reflects Akpomudje’s longstanding contributions to the legal profession and his reputation as a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
He expressed confidence that the monarch’s wealth of experience and leadership would strengthen the integrity, discipline, and standards of the legal profession, particularly at a time when public confidence in institutions remains a critical national concern.
The governor emphasised that the recognition underscores the importance of merit and professional excellence in national leadership positions.
Bridging Traditional Authority and Legal Influence
Akpomudje’s emergence highlights a unique intersection between traditional leadership and professional authority. As the 14th Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, his dual role reflects the evolving influence of traditional rulers in national discourse, particularly in governance and institutional development.
Observers note that his elevation to the Body of Benchers signals a broader recognition of leadership beyond conventional professional boundaries.
Transition at the Apex Legal Body
Akpomudje succeeds Olukayode Ariwoola, marking a new phase for the Body of Benchers, the apex regulatory institution overseeing legal education and professional conduct in Nigeria.
Established under the Legal Practitioners Act, the body plays a central role in the call to bar of new lawyers and enforcement of ethical standards within the profession.
Outlook for the Legal Profession
Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism that the new chairman would bring renewed vigour to the institution, particularly in maintaining discipline and promoting excellence within the legal system.
He wished the monarch a successful tenure, noting that his leadership would contribute meaningfully to strengthening Nigeria’s justice system.
