Delta Loses A Peaceful Statesman As Oborevwori Visits Elue Family

Shock and Sorrow in Aniocha North
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has visited the family of the late Chief Benjamin Elue to mourn the former Deputy Governor, who passed away on Saturday at 85. Chief Elue, remembered for his integrity and calm leadership, served during Governor James Onanefe Ibori’s administration from 1999 to 2007.
Governor Oborevwori described Elue’s death as a “rude shock,” noting that he had recently indicated readiness to participate in official engagements.
“His demise came to us as a rude shock. Only recently, he had indicated his availability to attend an official meeting,” he said, addressing Lady Esther Elue, children, and other family members.
Celebrating a Life of Dedication
The governor extolled Elue’s virtues, emphasizing his humility, dedication, and commitment to peaceful public service.
“Chief Elue was a humble man and a great leader. He lived peacefully among his people, relating to everyone with simplicity and grace,” Oborevwori said. He added that Elue’s legacy is measured not by material accumulation but by the positive impact he made on Delta State.
Elue’s tenure as Deputy Governor is remembered for fostering community cohesion and for his non-confrontational approach to leadership.
State and Family Unite in Mourning
Oborevwori assured the Elue family of the state’s solidarity, describing the loss as shared by all Deltans. “This is a great loss, not just to the Elue family, but to the people of Aniocha North and Delta State as a whole,” he said.
Signing the condolence register, he wrote: “We are saddened by the passing of His Excellency, Diokpa BSC Elue. He served Delta State with honour and integrity. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family during this period of mourning.”
On behalf of the family, Mr. Paul Oseji expressed deep appreciation for the support. “This house has truly become a Mecca of a sort since Saturday. We are grateful to everyone who has visited, called, prayed for us, and paid condolence visits. Your presence and kind words have strengthened us immensely,” he said, appealing for continued prayers.
