Oborevwori Approves 2025 Bursary, Scholarships For 34,000+ Delta Students
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the 2025 bursary awards for Delta State students in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to education and student welfare.
The approval also covers scholarship awards for students with disabilities and children of deceased civil servants, as well as financial assistance for Delta indigenes attending the Nigerian Law Schools.
Over 34,000 Students to Benefit
The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Dr. Godfrey Enita, disclosed the development on 12 February 2026, during a meeting with the national executives of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU).
According to Dr. Enita, a total of 33,064 students will benefit from the 2025 bursary scheme. In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities will receive scholarship awards. Another 533 students at the Nigerian Law Schools will benefit from a special financial assistance package earlier approved by the governor.
He explained that the approval was aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.
Processing of Payments Underway
Dr. Enita said the meeting with NADESSTU leaders was convened following concerns over delays in the disbursement of the 2025 bursary. He assured the students that the board had commenced processing payments for both bursaries and scholarships.
He reaffirmed that the Oborevwori administration places high priority on education as a foundation for sustainable development and human capital advancement in Delta State.
Students Express Appreciation
Responding, NADESSTU national executives led by President, Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph, and Senate President, Comrade Idiseru Alex, welcomed the governor’s approval and described it as timely.
They noted that the intervention would significantly reduce the financial strain faced by many students and their families, and pledged continued support for the state government.
The development marks another step in the state’s ongoing efforts to expand access to educational support and strengthen investment in human capital.
