Tinubu Names 68 New Ambassadors: Full Breakdown Of Career & Political Envoys
PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has unveiled a new slate of 68 ambassadors-designate, comprising 34 career diplomats and 31 non-career nominees, marking one of the administration’s most significant foreign service deployments yet. The list spans all 36 states, reflecting a mix of seasoned diplomats, politicians, technocrats and former security chiefs.
The career nominees include: Ambassador Mohammed Mahmoud Lele (Bauchi); Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno); Adeyemi Adebayo Emmanuel (Ekiti); Clark Omeru Alexandra (Delta); Magaji Umar (Jigawa); Mohammed Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna); Abdul Salam Abus Zayat (Kano); Sulu Gambari (Kwara); and Romata Mohammed Omobolanle (Lagos). Others are from states such as Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and Zamfara.
The non-career list features prominent political and public figures including former Abia governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu; Senator Grace Bent (Adamawa); Senator Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom); media strategist Reno Omokri (Delta); Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (rtd.) (Cross River); Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd.) (Kano); former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro; Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo); Femi Fani-Kayode (Ogun); and Senator Nora Daduut (Plateau).
Three nominees—Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun)—have already been screened and cleared by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, with the full list now awaiting further confirmation.
The appointments are expected to shape Nigeria’s global diplomatic engagement as the Tinubu administration recalibrates its foreign policy direction.
