Asagba-In-Council Cracks Down On Iron Vendors, Drug Abuse & Insecurity

HRM, Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge convened an emergency Asagba-in-Council meeting at Ogwa-Uku Ahaba to tackle rising insecurity, iron condemn vendors, drug abuse, and Anioma State issues.
The Asagba condemned the murder of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu and emphasized that peace is paramount in Asaba. Key decisions include the evacuation of iron dump sites, a total ban on iron vendors, and prohibition of overnight truck parking, with enforcement assigned to local chiefs and ACV leaders.
On drug abuse, HRM Azinge announced the near completion of a new rehabilitation center and vowed swift action against drug barons. He also called for enhanced security in Koka/Akwuofor, including a police post, internal security networks, and 2,000 solar lights approved for illumination.
Land disputes and improper reselling of plots were condemned, with warnings that guilty chiefs will be derobed. The investigation into Justice Okogwu’s murder continues, with a private security guard identified as a preliminary suspect.
Regarding Anioma State, the Council reaffirmed support for its creation within the Southsouth, rejecting misinformation linking it to the Southeast. Plans include a press release, petitions to federal leaders, and a peaceful youth protest on 1 December 2025.
Other agenda items included the upcoming Asaba International 10km Road Race, formation of an Asaba football club, and urban renewal initiatives ahead of Asaba Day celebrations. The meeting concluded at 3:30 pm.
