Six Real Estate Marketers Kidnapped During Ogun Property Visit

SIX real estate marketers from Lagos were abducted in Ogun State on Friday while inspecting a parcel of land in Oyebola village, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area. The team had travelled to the community to assess the property ahead of a marketing campaign when gunmen attacked, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed on Sunday.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo said the command received a distress report shortly after the incident and immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation. He explained that the marketers were brought in to familiarise themselves with the land before promoting it to potential buyers when they were taken hostage.
“The command has been on it since, and we shall definitely ensure that these people regain their freedom,” Ogunlowo assured.
The kidnapping comes amid a surge in violent abductions nationwide, intensifying calls for decentralised policing. Southern governors, who recently met in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, renewed their demand for the creation of state police, insisting it is essential for effective local security.
Their renewed advocacy follows multiple high-profile incidents, including the abduction of over 300 students in Niger State, 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi, and 38 worshippers during a church attack in Kwara.
The Ogun incident further highlights the worsening security situation and growing pressure on authorities to take more decisive action.
