SIX people died Friday night in a truck–bus collision at the Nawfia–Enugu Agidi axis of the Awka–Onitsha Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.
Anambra Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, said the crash occurred when a passenger bus (XQ398AA) travelling from Ebonyi to Onitsha attempted a dangerous overtaking and collided head-on with a tipper truck (FGG21XV).
Thirty-two people were involved: six died (two men, four women), five women were injured, and 21 escaped unhurt. Victims were taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, where the deaths were confirmed.
FRSC officers cleared the road to ease traffic. Asekhauno described the crash as avoidable and urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid reckless overtaking, and prioritise safety.
