Edo Seeks FG Intervention As Boundary Tension With Delta Escalates
By TOSAN OYAKHILOME-AKAHOMEN
EDO State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the ongoing land dispute between Edo and Delta states. He made the appeal during a fact-finding visit to disputed communities alongside members of the Edo State Boundary Committee.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Idahosa urged President Bola Tinubu to deploy relevant federal agencies to ensure a fair and lasting resolution. He stressed that Edo remains committed to protecting its territorial integrity while maintaining peace in affected communities.
Idahosa highlighted the Jameson River as a natural boundary marker, insisting that findings show the disputed Ugbakele area belongs to Edo State. He urged residents to remain calm pending the National Boundary Commission’s conclusion.
During engagements in Oben, Ikobi, Iguelaba, and Obozogbe-Nugu, community members complained of neglect by oil companies and alleged that the previous Edo administration ceded communal land to private investors without consultation or compensation.
Idahosa assured that ongoing investigations would guide recommendations to the governor and emphasized the government’s commitment to justice, equity, and peaceful coexistence.
