Widows Applaud Oborevwori As Delta Pays August Welfare Stipends

DELTA State widows benefiting from the state’s Widows Welfare Scheme have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt payment of their August 2026 monthly stipends.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the 25 local government areas of the state, expressed their appreciation during the scheme’s monthly prayer session held in Udu Local Government Area.
Stipends Provide Relief
The widows described the financial support as a major relief at a time when many households continue to face economic pressures.
They said the regular payments have helped beneficiaries meet basic household needs and cope with prevailing financial challenges.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Widows Welfare Scheme and Livelihood Support Unit, Elder Isioma Okonta, also praised Oborevwori for prioritising the welfare of widows.
According to Okonta, the prompt payment reflects the governor’s commitment to improving the living conditions of vulnerable residents across the state.
“We appreciate our Governor, my boss, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his uncommon commitment to the welfare of widows,” he said.
Hope for Vulnerable Residents
Okonta added that the timely payment of stipends demonstrated the administration’s determination to promote the wellbeing of Deltans across the 25 LGAs.
He said the scheme had provided relief, dignity and renewed hope to thousands of widows who depend on the monthly support for essential needs.
At the prayer session, beneficiaries separately thanked the governor for sustaining the initiative and continuing to remember their plight.
They also prayed for wisdom, strength, good health and long life for Oborevwori.
Widows Back MORE Agenda
The beneficiaries further called for the continuity of the governor’s MORE agenda beyond 2027.
One of them said the widows were praying for the governor because he had continued to support them through the welfare scheme.
They also pledged to mobilise their families, friends and associates in support of the continued implementation of the administration’s programmes.
