Waive Applauds Oborevwori’s Approval of ₦22.69 Billion Udu–ECN Road Reconstruction

Federal Lawmaker Commends Landmark Infrastructure Investment
THE Member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive, has praised Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving the reconstruction of the strategic Udu–ECN Road, describing the project as a major investment in infrastructure and economic development.
Waive said the ₦22.69 billion project demonstrates the administration’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges while improving mobility and stimulating economic activities across the affected communities.
The project is regarded as one of the most significant road interventions approved by the state government in the Udu axis in recent years.
Road to Link Key Economic Corridors
The project involves the reconstruction of approximately 20 kilometres of roadway stretching from the Warri–Port Harcourt Expressway at ECN Junction to the DSC Expressway at Udu Road Junction.
It also includes a two-kilometre spur linking Otor-Udu, thereby extending the road’s connectivity to adjoining communities and expanding access to commercial and residential areas.
Upon completion, the road is expected to serve as a vital transportation corridor connecting major economic centres within Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas.
Waive Expresses Constituents’ Appreciation
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business thanked Governor Oborevwori on behalf of residents of the federal constituency.
According to him, the project reflects the governor’s determination to undertake infrastructure projects with lasting socio-economic benefits.
“Your administration continues to execute legacy projects that will outlive all of us across the state, and we are grateful,” Waive stated.
He noted that the reconstruction would improve transportation, facilitate trade and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents who depend on the route daily.
Tender Board Approves Contract
The project received approval during the 14th meeting of the Delta State Tenders Board for 2026, presided over by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme.
The contract was awarded to Niger Construction Limited (NigerCat), one of Nigeria’s longstanding civil engineering firms, with an expected completion period of 18 months.
The approval followed years of public complaints over the deteriorating condition of the road and increasing calls for government intervention.
Government Sees Project as Strategic Economic Investment
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the reconstruction represents a strategic infrastructure intervention under Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
He expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to execute the project according to approved specifications and within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the commissioner, improving critical road infrastructure remains central to the administration’s efforts to enhance transportation efficiency and support economic growth.
Expected Economic Impact
Beyond improving road safety and reducing travel time, the project is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and services, stimulate commercial activities and improve access to neighbouring communities along the Udu–Otu-Jeremi corridor.
Analysts note that investments in strategic road infrastructure often enhance regional integration, attract private investment and reduce transportation costs, making them important drivers of sustainable economic development.
If completed on schedule, the reconstruction is expected to significantly improve connectivity while supporting industrial, commercial and social activities across one of Delta State’s important economic corridors.
