Super Eagles Touch Down In Russia Ahead Of Tuesday’s Friendly

By AUGUSTUS ISICHEI
THE Super Eagles have arrived in Russia ahead of their international friendly against the hosts on Tuesday 6 October 2026.
The Nigerian delegation left Abuja on Thursday and arrived at Nizhny Novgorod International Airport, also known as Strigino International Airport, on Friday.
From there, the team will continue preparations for the encounter at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
The travelling group includes several backroom staff members and players invited from the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Meanwhile, head coach Eric Chelle is expected to join the delegation directly in Russia. He did not travel back with the team after Nigeria’s recent outing in Guinea-Bissau.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi is among those who have withdrawn from the friendly. However, most of the invited players are expected to make their way to Russia from their respective bases.
Chelle is expected to use the match to assess several players as Nigeria builds towards the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.
Nigeria and Russia last met in an international friendly in June 2025. The Super Eagles secured a 1-1 draw, with Tolu Arokodare scoring Nigeria’s equaliser.
This time, the match will kick off at 6:00 p.m. Nigerian time on Tuesday. It will start at 5:00 p.m. GMT and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time.
The Nizhny Novgorod Stadium will host the encounter as the Super Eagles continue preparations for their upcoming assignments.
