Asaba Hosts National Leaders and Investors
DELTA State moved to strengthen its position as an investment destination as Vice President Kashim Shettima joined political leaders, captains of industry and development partners at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba.
The Vice President arrived in the state ahead of the summit and was welcomed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other prominent government officials and stakeholders.
The gathering was organised to promote Delta’s economic opportunities, deepen investor confidence and build partnerships capable of driving industrialisation and sustainable development.
The summit also provided a platform for showcasing the state’s comparative advantages to both local and international investors.
Economic Reforms Setting the Stage for Investment
Addressing participants, Shettima linked Delta’s investment ambitions to broader reforms implemented by the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said ongoing fiscal, monetary and structural reforms have improved Nigeria’s macroeconomic outlook, strengthened investor confidence and created a more predictable business environment.
According to the Vice President, the Federal Government’s responsibility is to provide economic stability, while state governments must build the institutions, infrastructure and policies that encourage businesses to invest and expand.
He noted that this partnership between the federal and state governments is critical to achieving sustainable economic growth.
Delta Positioned for Industrial Growth
Shettima said Delta possesses the resources and strategic advantages needed to become one of Nigeria’s leading industrial and commercial centres.
He identified the state’s oil and gas reserves, agricultural resources, coastline, solid minerals, logistics potential and growing manufacturing sector as strong foundations for future investment.
However, he cautioned that economic potential only delivers value when supported by sound governance, investment-friendly regulations and effective project implementation.
The Vice President encouraged the state government to continue converting these advantages into productive enterprises capable of creating jobs and improving livelihoods.
Governor’s Economic Vision Receives Strong Endorsement
The Vice President commended Governor Oborevwori for pursuing policies aimed at diversifying Delta’s economy beyond traditional revenue sources.
He described the governor’s investment drive as evidence of purposeful leadership focused on long-term development rather than short-term gains.
According to Shettima, the increasing quality of investment summits organised by states across Nigeria reflects a healthy competition centred on attracting businesses, generating employment and improving citizens’ welfare.
He encouraged investors attending the summit to explore opportunities across agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, energy, infrastructure and the blue economy.
Public-Private Partnership Remains Central
The summit concluded with renewed calls for stronger collaboration between governments, investors and development institutions to unlock Delta State’s economic potential.
Stakeholders agreed that sustained investment in infrastructure, human capital and industrial development will be essential for translating policy ambitions into measurable economic outcomes.
As Delta intensifies efforts to attract both domestic and foreign investment, the summit reinforced the state’s determination to position itself as a competitive business hub capable of supporting inclusive growth, expanding employment and contributing more significantly to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
